Dr Kate McMahon, PhD

Registered Music Therapist in Melbourne

I’m a gentle and creative Registered Music Therapist in Melbourne, dedicated to helping you find joy, ease and strength during difficult times. I draw on strengths-based, somatic and creative arts therapies to support you in this journey.

In our first sessions, we’ll work together to create trust in the relationship, and identify what you want to work on, and what methods we might try.

In our collaborative work, we might explore experiential and supportive processes to help you reduce pain and anxiety, improve your mood and energy, express your thoughts and emotions, and make meaning and sense of your experiences.

I draw on my 8 years of experience and extensive training as a music therapist and counsellor to draw on evidence-based practices to provide you with the best support. I also teach and supervise students in Melbourne University’s Master of Music Therapy degree.

Based in Melbourne, I provide services from my clinic in Thornbury and via online. Some limited home visits are available in inner north Melbourne.

I understand how important it is to find the right therapist, so I offer free 15 minute consultations to help you decide if I’m the right fit for you.
